 FAQs

Trek Relief (tax ID number 81-5114205) is a tax-exempt nonprofit public benefit corporation under IRS Code Section 501(c)(3). Donations to Trek Relief are fully tax-deductible as permitted by law. To clarify any questions, we've included FAQs below.

  • Q: I made a general donation or contributed to someone's fundraising page to help them attend a trip. Is my donation tax-deductible?

A: Yes, your donation is tax-deductible. When you make a general donation to our fund, it is fully tax-deductible as no goods or services are provided in return. Similarly, donations to an individual’s fundraising page are tax-deductible because you do not receive any direct benefits. The participant may receive goods and services, but these do not affect your tax-deductible status. Please retain your donation receipt and any corresponding webpage information for your tax records.

  • Q: I fundraised for part of my trip and then covered the remaining amount needed to attend. How does this affect tax deductibility?

A: Donations raised for your trip are fully tax-deductible because donors don't get anything in return. If you pay the rest, all amounts beyond the listed trip cost are also tax-deductible. We recommend consulting with a tax advisor to clarify the specifics of your situation and ensure proper reporting. Keep all donation receipts and relevant financial documents for your records.

  • Q: I am attending a trip or supporting an individual’s trip participation at Trek Relief. Can my donation be matched by my employer?

A: Yes, your donation may qualify for a corporate match, depending on your employer's matching gift policies. As long as the donation is to our programs, including supporting individual participants without receiving any goods or services in return, it generally qualifies for matching. We advise checking with your employer to confirm the specifics of their matching gifts policy, particularly if your donation helps cover costs that provide direct benefits.
